Email remains one of the most common and most underestimated outbound channels in the enterprise. Many sensitive data incidents are not caused by deliberate exfiltration. They happen during what looks like an ordinary send action: the wrong recipient is selected, the CC range is too broad, or an attachment containing customer data or project material is sent to someone who should not receive it. Once the message is successfully delivered, the information has already crossed the original control boundary. At that point, later review may explain what happened, but it usually cannot reverse the exposure. That is why preventing email misdelivery is fundamentally a send-time control problem, not just a post-incident audit problem.
