Enterprise endpoint management systems generate large amounts of behavior data every day: which applications were opened on an endpoint and at what time, how long each application stayed open, which applications remained active, and which time periods were idle. This data is objective, continuous, and granular. However, for a long time it has been used mainly for security auditing and incident tracing, and has not been transformed into a basis for management decisions in daily operations.
Meanwhile, managers face another set of questions: Why has the output cycle of the R&D team become longer? Is the increase in overtime in a certain department caused by increased workload or by decreased tool efficiency? Is the newly launched collaboration software actually being used? Which positions rely heavily on professional software, and which positions show persistently low software activity?
The answers to these questions are in fact hidden in endpoint behavior data. The problem is not a lack of data, but that this data has never been reorganized and analyzed from a “productivity” perspective. The productivity analysis capability of the Ping64 integrated office security platform is designed precisely to respond to this need: on the same platform, security data also serves efficiency management, so that the same endpoint data generates dual value.
I. Solution Positioning and Overall Architecture
Ping64 positions productivity analysis as an extension capability of the integrated office security platform, rather than a standalone management tool. Its core design idea is that the endpoint application usage data on which productivity analysis relies comes from the same endpoint collection capability and the same data foundation as the data on which security auditing, behavior analysis, and software compliance management rely. Enterprises do not need to deploy additional monitoring tools for efficiency analysis, and the problem of data fragmentation between security systems and efficiency systems is avoided.
In terms of overall architecture, the productivity analysis capability shares a unified identity system and permission system with modules such as endpoint security management, data loss prevention, and behavior auditing within the platform. Managers at different levels can only view data within the scope of their authority, and the boundaries of data use are constrained by the unified permission system. At the same time, abnormal application activity patterns discovered by productivity analysis can be linked with security modules, forming a mechanism in which efficiency data and security data corroborate each other.
II. Productivity Assessment and Ranking
The starting point of productivity assessment is to answer a seemingly simple but difficult-to-quantify question: Of the time employees spend in front of computers, how much is truly in a productive working state? Traditional statistical methods usually record only power-on duration or online duration and cannot distinguish working states. Ping64 intelligently collects and analyzes the time employees spend using computers, and automatically classifies productive work time and unproductive work time based on employee behavior. The classification is not based on a simple software blacklist or whitelist, but comprehensively considers multi-dimensional behavioral characteristics such as application type, usage duration, operational continuity, and active time periods, objectively presenting the time structure and helping managers identify efficiency-loss links.
On the basis of assessment, productivity ranking obtains the software used by employees and the independent time used by each software, calculates employee productivity scores, and forms an efficiency ranking. The scoring model comprehensively considers factors such as the duration and proportion of use of productive work software, the duration and proportion of use of unproductive software, software switching frequency, and operational continuity, and supports differentiated baseline configuration by position and department. The value of the ranking lies not in the ranking itself, but in providing a coordinate system for horizontal comparison, helping managers discover opportunities for efficiency improvement rather than simply using it for reward and punishment assessment.
III. Activity Analysis and Time Tracking
Productivity assessment and ranking focus on individuals and teams, while activity analysis elevates the perspective to the organizational level. Ping64 collects statistics on software application types across all endpoints, classifies usage duration and proportion by type, and analyzes overall activity and scores from the software type dimension. The system categorizes endpoint software into office document, design and R&D, communication and collaboration, browsing and query, entertainment and leisure, and other categories, and collects statistics on the total usage duration, proportion, and activity trends of each category. This perspective reveals whether the organization’s tool structure matches the nature of its business, and provides an objective basis for the IT department’s tool selection, software procurement, and promotion strategies.
Time tracking is the underlying support for productivity analysis. Ping64 can view software applications and detailed information on all endpoints, and supports custom personalized tags for each application to form more intelligent statistical charts. The system records detailed information such as the start time, active duration, and switching records of each application on each endpoint. Administrators can perform multi-dimensional queries by endpoint, employee, department, and time range. Custom tags enable enterprises to classify applications according to their own business context. These tags directly participate in the scoring model, making analysis results more aligned with actual business logic. Time tracking also provides retrospective and review capabilities, allowing relevant endpoint application usage data to be retrieved after a project cycle ends, objectively reviewing team time allocation and actual tool usage.
IV. Advantages of the Integrated Platform
Embedding productivity analysis capabilities into the integrated office security platform provides advantages in data reuse and perspective integration. Productivity analysis and security auditing share the same endpoint collection capability and data foundation, enabling one-time collection and dual use, avoiding duplicate deployment and data fragmentation. Productivity data involves employee behavior and is highly sensitive. Ping64 constrains the boundaries of data use through a unified identity and permission system, and managers at different levels view data according to their authority. When productivity analysis discovers abnormal application activity patterns, it can be linked with security modules, enabling efficiency data and security data to corroborate each other. Productivity assessment, ranking, activity analysis, and time tracking form a complete analysis chain from individual to team, from time structure to tool structure, and from real-time tracking to historical review. Managers can go deeper along this chain to locate specific teams, applications, and time periods and identify executable improvement actions.
V. Application Value
Ping64’s productivity analysis capability transforms endpoint data from a mere security cost into a management asset that can be understood. It provides managers with an objective basis for time structure and efficiency distribution, helping identify efficiency-loss links and deviations in tool usage; provides the IT department with data on actual software usage and activity to support tool selection and procurement decisions; and provides the organization with data-based review capabilities, shifting project management from reliance on subjective impressions to reliance on objective records. When security and efficiency share the same data foundation, the same permission system, and the same analysis platform, endpoints are no longer just risk points that need to be controlled, but become data sources that can continuously release management value.
