When a company introduces a new office application, the hard part is rarely getting the installer. The hard part is making sure a large endpoint population installs the same version through the same channel under the same control model. At the scale of 1,000 workstations, email attachments, shared folders, ad hoc chat messages, and manual walkthroughs quickly create version drift, repeated support tickets, failed installs, and poor deployment visibility. The real objective is not simply to distribute a package. It is to standardize the installation path.

Generative AI is now part of day-to-day work, but the real management question is no longer whether employees are allowed to use it. The harder question is whether they may unintentionally send sensitive business information to external AI services while trying to work faster. In practice, the risk does not stop at opening an AI website. It appears when users upload attachments, paste real data into prompts, move files through webmail, or use temporary cloud services as a bridge. In nearly every post-mortem of a data leakage incident, the deadlock around accountability begins with one shared problem: nobody can prove what was actually on the employee’s screen at the moment of the alleged leak. Email remains one of the most common and most underestimated outbound channels in the enterprise. Many sensitive data incidents are not caused by deliberate exfiltration. An endpoint security baseline is valuable not because it enables every possible control, but because it tightens the risk entry points that are easiest to abuse, easiest to bypass, and most likely to create lasting impact. Many organizations stay reactive in endpoint governance not because they lack tools, but because their default policies are too loose, their exception workflow is unclear, and their verification process is weak. As a result, common risk paths such as USB usage, unauthorized software execution, and uncontrolled external network access never become part of a stable control loop. For most office endpoints, meaningful baseline improvement starts there.
